about
This song was written after reading a quote by Maurice Sendak on the day he died. It's not about him or a tribute of any sort, it was just inspired by his beautiful words. I recorded it on my phone and normally I would NEVER share a recording like this publicly. Something is telling me to share this one, though. I hope someone out there who needs it receives it.
"I have nothing now but praise for my life. I'm not unhappy. I cry a lot because I miss people. They die and I can't stop them. They leave me and I love them more. There are so many beautiful things in the world which I will have to leave when I die, but I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready."
-M. Sendak
lyrics
There are so many beautiful things
There are so many beautiful things
That I'll have to leave when I die, when I die
That I'll have to leave when I die
And I don't cry because of my sadness
I cry 'cause my love only grows
And I cry 'cause the distance between us
Is something that all of us knows
And I cry 'cause the ego behind me
Has left only love in it's place
And I cry 'cause the universe and all it contains
Is held in the lines on your face
There are so many beautiful things
There are so many beautiful things
That I'll have to leave when I die, When I die
That I'll have to leave when I die
But I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready to die
I'm ready, I'm ready to die
I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready to die
I'm ready, I'm ready to die
So take me, good Lord, to the sky, to the sky
Take me, good Lord, to the sky, to the sky
